So you know you want to make something happen be it creating a website, making a product to sell or setting up a conference. So this means you’ve got a bunch of things to do with a bunch of people, within a set timescale to a set budget that meets an end goal.
So how do you get your arms around the What, Why, When, Where, How and with Who in a sensible way?
The answer is that you need a PLAN!
Key Steps in Creating a Practical Plan for your Idea
- Write down WHAT you’re going to do – nothing too fancy but enough of a project outline to give you some boundary for your thinking and tie down what the project is.
- Describe the project Goals – these are the high level things that you want to project to achieve for you the WHY you’re doing this project and what good looks like at the end
- Define the Deliverables – each of the goals will have 3 to six deliverables, these are the tangible WHAT things that you will end up with
- Now define the tasks – these are the steps or activities that you will need to take to create the deliverables to meet your project goals, the HOW, WHEN and WHERE of your project
- Next describe the people needed – these are the people, suppliers, resources that you need to be able to do the tasks to create the deliverables to meet your project goals, yep this is the WHO of your project
So all of the above items will be the source material for you project plan.
